Lyle George Ferney, 86, known as ”George” by family, passed from this earth on May 12th, 2018. At the time George was living in Caldwell, Idaho.
George was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Ruth Ferney, his wife Juanita and brothers Gary and Don Ferney. Survivors include a sister Jackie Baxter and children Mike Ferney, Linda Green, Connie Williams and Brenda Overman.
George was born on December 25, 1931 in Rexburg, Idaho to Lyle and Ruth Ferney. He was the second of four children. His early childhood was spent in Idaho Falls. In 1939, he moved with his family to Boise, Idaho, where he attended elementary school.
George became acquainted with Juanita (Neta) Walter while attending Boise Junior High. They both attended Boise High School and began dating during their High School years. While at Boise High School, he participated in track & field and football. George married his high school sweetheart, Neta, on May 26, 1950.
After high school, George attended Boise Junior College. In 1954 George received the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement award in recognition of outstanding performance in the department. He graduated with an Associate of Arts degree with his name on the Dean’s list in 1954.
After his graduation, he began an 18 year career working in the grocery business. In 1972, George left the grocery business to work at the Idaho Department of Labor. There, he was an employment supervisor for 20 years.
In 1994, he retired from the Department of Labor, although, he would continue working part-time with his son Mike painting homes around the valley.
George was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions for the church and cultivated long-lasting friendships with fellow church members as well as with work colleagues and community members. George’s legacy of service will be remembered by family and others who were recipients of his kind deeds.
George and Neta were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 18, 1972. At this time their four children were sealed to them.
Activities that he enjoyed throughout his life were reading books, bicycling, movies, roller-skating, and running. George had a large library of books he had read.
He was supportive of his grandchildren, attending sporting events, graduations, birthdays, blessings, baptisms and weddings. His lasting legacy will always be his devotion to family and continuing encouragement and counsel to live rich, full lives based on gospel principles.

George will be interred in the Canyon Hill Cemetery next to his life-long sweetheart, Neta.
George’s memorial services will be Saturday, May 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center at 3015 South Kimball Ave, in Caldwell. Family members will meet in the Relief Society Room at 10:00 a.m., immediately preceding the services. Services will be under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapels.
