Carl William Holmes 99, of Homedale passed away February 2, 2014 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab of Holly in Nampa.
Carl was born on August 11, 1914 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Charlie Holmes and Alice Brown Holmes. He moved to Idaho around 1931 to live with his Uncle Bowman Hays’s family. He worked on the family farm and for neighbors before starting his own farming operation which he ran until he retired. Carl lived with his cousin Eulah Hays in Homedale. Carl loved celebrating Christmas with extravagant display of lights and holiday figurines. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, bowling and annual trips to the Oregon coast with his family. In his retirement he was usually found gardening or socializing with church friends and family. His kind heart and generosity will be remembered by many.
Though Carl never had children of his own, he was thought of as a father by Sandra Hurn, whom he helped raise. He was also seen as a grandfather by many family members.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Alma Larimer and Juanita Case. His Uncle Bowman and Aunt Eva Hays, his cousins: Lee Hays, Faye Dines, Eulah Hays, Velma Milligan and Carl Hays. He is survived by his nieces Betty Adams and Nancy Rumfelt, nephew Bill Case, cousin Robert Hays and numerous other cousins.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapels. A viewing will be on Thursday February 6, 2014 at 9:30 AM at the Mountain View Church of the Nazarene in Wilder. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM. Graveside services follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
The family would like to thank the nurse Linda Svancera and staff at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab of Holly for Carl’s care during his stay.

My sympathy goes out to the family. I know that this is a difficult time right now. The loss of a loved one leaves a void in our hearts and our lives. The pain seems like it will never end sometimes.
We were never intended to experience such grief and sorrow. Although this is a sad time, there is a shining light to brighten your life, found in your personal copy of the bible. The bible promises that soon your loved one will hear the voice of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and awaken to live forever on a new paradise earth where death will be no more, neither will pain and suffering.(John 5:28,29;Revelation 21:1-4)
What a beautiful day that will be! Soon our loving Creator, Jehovah God will fulfill that promise and "no resident will say, "I am sick" ever again.
I pray that this knowledge gives the family and friends the strength to endure until that day comes.
