Challen John Watson, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011, from natural causes at his home near Marsing.

Challen, known to most as Chally, was born on June 25, 1927, in Homedale to Challen and Margaret Watson.  He attended Homedale schools and had 9 brothers and sisters.

On September 27, 1946, Chally married June Maxine Hale in Winnemucca, Nevada.  Together they had 3 sons: Terry, Darrell, and Steven.

In 1957, Chally and Maxine moved to Marsing, and opened the Highway Service Station & Garage.  A few years later, they moved into agriculture and started Terra Hug Spray Company.

Chally loved the outdoors and his family shares fond memories of him enjoying life outside.  He spent the summers fishing, boating, and BBQing, and made two major boating trips from Lewiston to Astoria on the Snake and Columbia rivers.  He spent many winters snowmobiling the slopes of the Owyhee’s with friends and family.

An active member in the community, Chally volunteered his time with the Owyhee County Sherriff’s Posse, Owyhee County Search & Rescue, the Marsing Fire Department, the Lions Club, and the City Council.  He also participated in several clubs including People for the Owyhee’s and the Owyhee Snowmobile Club, as well as happily volunteered at annual events such as the Disaster Auction.

Chally is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a son.  He is survived by his wife, 7 siblings, 2 sons, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday, August 28th at Flahiff Funeral Chapel (624 Cleveland Blvd, Caldwell).  Challen’s Funeral Service will be held at Deer Flat Free Methodist Church (17703 Beet Road, Caldwell) on Monday, August 29th at 10:30am.  Interment will follow at Marsing-Homedale Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the family to be distributed among various Marsing charities (PO Box 429 Marsing, ID 83639).  Condolences may be given at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.

Dear family of Chally Watson,
Chally will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful, patient man. I will never forget his patience with me overhauling my old Ford 600 truck engine. I had never done that before and I probably drove him nuts with "What's next". He was a real community booster.
Rest assured, he is in a better place now.
Love,
Pete

I am so sorry for your loss. Hold each other to get through this. I still remember Chally laughing in my barber shop. Love you all.
