On Thursday, April 26, 2012, the angels escorted an amazing man into the loving arms of God.  Dale Kenyon was born in Bradleyville, MO on January 15, 1937, to Ray and Viola Kenyon.  From spring 1942 through spring 2012 Dale lived in and loved his community of Wilder.  He married Vera Crego December 10, 1961.  Dale graduated from Wilder High School and attended The College of Idaho with the intention of teaching elementary students.  Three days before his first teaching job he was appointed acting Postmaster of Wilder.  He was torn between teaching the children and serving the Wilder community, but followed the advice of his superintendent to take the Postmaster job.  Dale was appointed the permanent Postmaster by President Lynden B. Johnson, the youngest ever appointed in Idaho.  He served in that capacity for 32 years.  
To satisfy his love of helping children and youth Dale worked in both Boy and Girl Scouts, Job’s Daughters, coached summer Little League teams for many years, was Director of the Wilder Little League and later Director of the Tri-County Little League.  When his son began participating in school athletics Dale began over 30 years of serving the Wilder High School as scorekeeper for the football and basketball teams.  He loved the kids on the teams and considered them “his”.
In more recent years Dale has worked to get a museum in Wilder, serves on the Canyon County Historical Society Board, and since retirement has worked hard for the Democratic Party in Canyon County.  Dale has served the United Methodist Church in many capacities over the years and especially enjoyed his time as “grandpa” in the nursery.  Both Dale and Vera volunteer at the Wilder Food Bank.
While Postmaster, Dale belonged to the National Association of Postmasters of the United States.  He and Vera were privileged to travel from Alaska to Puerto Rico to Postmasters meetings and also to almost all of the 200 plus Post Offices in Idaho.  The highlight of his postal career was being able to attend a postmaster meeting in Washington DC and attend the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter.
Dale was a loving husband to Vera for just over 50 years.  Together they raised Doug and Melissa, a definite labor of love and pride.  He is survived by Vera, his children Doug and Ann Kenyon, Potlatch and Melissa and Juan Orozco of Wilder; his grandchildren Nicole and Devin Stamper and Tori and Derek Kenyon-Harper all of Moscow and Danielle Orozco and Alex Orozco of Wilder, plus his great grandsons, Landen and Jaxson Stamper and William Kenyon-Harper all of Moscow.  Dale is survived by his brother Joe of California and the Kenyon and Crego Clans, a host of friends, and the Wilder Wildcat and College of Idaho Yote teams
Semi-annual trips to the Oregon Coast were a highlight, often accompanied by special friends Danny and Bonnie Cagle.  Whale watching at the ocean was as exciting as spotting bald eagles on the Oregon Desert.  Dale and Vera were blessed to have one last week on the coast together before Dale went to his new home in heaven.  Rest well, my love.
Dale’s memorial service will be held at the Caldwell United Methodist Church on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
