Morgan LeRoy Smith, 61, of Moscow, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at a Coeur d’ Alene hospital of natural causes. Morgan was born on April 6, 1956 in Caldwell to Floyd and Norita Smith. He was raised in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell HS. After high school, Morgan received an Associate degree from Central College in Kansas and a Bachelor’s degree from Greenville College in Indiana. He continued to attend classes at the University of Idaho.
Morgan loved music and had the special gift of perfect pitch. He loved to sing, and could pick up many instruments and play by ear. Morgan was a faithful member and helper at his home church, the First Church of the Nazarene in Moscow. He traveled to Central America to serve on several missions.
Morgan retired from work in IT as well as teaching and newspaper delivery. He had a lifelong love of learning and could understand and explain the most difficult scientific concepts, such as “Rayleigh’s Scattering, Law of why the Sky is Blue.”
Morgan is survived by his mother, Norita Smith of Caldwell; brother, Richard Smith of Manor TX; sisters Carolyn (Art) Troutner of McCall, Rita (Ken) Adair of Nampa, and Janet (Kit) DeAndre of Spokane, WA; nieces: Kelsey Young, Tegan Troutner, Paige and Erin DeAndre, and Abbie Adair. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Smith; sister, Nancy Smith; and nephew, Tom Troutner.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell. Condolences can be given at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com
