Jose Luis Cardenas, Sr.November 18, 1942 ~ July 23, 2017 (age 74)
Beloved husband of Sylvia and father to Jose Jr, Rosie, Lupe and David; he passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 23, 2017 at the age of 74, after a lengthy illness. He was known as “Pepe” to his family and as “El Queso” to his friends.
Jose was born in Piedras Negras, Coahila, Mexico to Aurelia Rodriguez & Arnulfo Cardenas, and was raised in Eagle Pass, Texas with his sister Lucia.
He worked as a farm laborer and migrated to various states until he met the love of his life, Sylvia Soto in 1962, and they were married in Plainview, Texas. They settled in Caldwell, Idaho where he worked as a construction worker, commercial painter and retired in 2006 after 25 years as a self-employed semi-truck driver. They celebrated 54 years of marriage last November.
He adored his 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-granddaughters as well as all of his nieces and nephews.
His favorite pass time was working on classic cars and hot rods with his sons. He enjoyed cruising in his restored 1956 Crown Victoria. He loved car shows and swap meets. He was famous for his grilling skills and never passed on an opportunity to barbeque on a good day.
Jose is preceded in death by his son David, mother Aurelia Rodriguez and father Arnulfo Cardenas.
He is now at peace and reunited with David in heaven. We love you Dad, we love you Grandpa, we miss your smile and playful personality.
