Frank Emilio Micheli September 10th, 1930 – December 31st, 2017
Frank Emilio Micheli, 87, of Carlin, passed away on December 31st, 2017 surrounded by family in Nampa, ID. He was born on September 10, 1930 in Carlin, Nevada to Italian parents. He was one of 13 children born to Emilio and Guglielma Micheli. He attended elementary and high school in Carlin.
After high school Frank served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Korean War era. After returning to Carlin, he married Ruth Ann Troupe on October 13, 1956 in Wells Nevada. There, in Carlin, he and Ruthann made their home raising four children, Steven, Patricia, Judy, and Amanda.
In his younger years Frank was a true cowboy, a hard-working ranch hand, and an avid hunter. He spent a lot of time chasing mustangs and deer all over the mountains of northeastern Nevada. Remnants of his mustang traps can still be seen today while out for a drive around the hills of Carlin.
Frank worked for the Nevada Department of Transportation as a foreman from 1955 until he retired at the age of 56 in 1986. Born a natural supervisor, he was good at his job, and even in other areas of his life, he never resisted sharing his wisdom with others.
Known for his quick wit and great sense of humor, Frank loved having an audience to share his stories with, and he recited old songs, quips, and poems. Anyone who knew him knew you could have a drink with Frank and expect two things: you’d laugh your way through it and learn a lesson by the end of it. Like any good storyteller, his stories got better each time he told them – one never heard the same exact story twice.
Frank loved his wife and family dearly. He loved spending time surrounded by his children and grandchildren, especially around the holidays with a table spread with traditional family foods and drinks. He had a unique way of always making guests feel welcomed as an extension of the family itself and he could often be found sitting on his front porch waiting for his next visitor.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthann; children: Steven (Christine) Micheli, Patricia (Michael) Pawelek, Judy (Donnie) Hopkins, and Amanda (Howard) Pennington; grandchildren: Nathan, Justin, Preston, Trevor, Caleb, Miranda, Logan, and Grayson; and siblings Mario, Rosie, Bill, Louie, and Alisia. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Yole, Lino, Annie, Johnie, Mary, Gloria, Joann, and Jenie.
A family greeting will be held at 11:00 AM followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 315 Peter’s Street, Carlin, Nevada on Saturday January 6, 2018. Burial will follow at Carlin City Cemetery, Carlin, NV. Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel of Caldwell, ID. Condolences may be given at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com. Frank will be missed dearly, but he is a legend in the hearts of those who knew him and his stories and wisdom will be cherished for generations to come.
