Donald Charles Ayers, of Caldwell, ID, passed away peacefully at a nearby hospital on Saturday, February 3, 2018, after a common surgery. Don was 91. Born in Meridian, Idaho on April 13, 1926, he was the fifth of twelve children of John Samuel Ayers and Gladys (Gosnell) Ayers. Don served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an airman, and was discharged in 1946. He married Marjorie Seeger, on June 3, 1950. They moved to Oregon in 1951, while Don worked on the Snake River Dam system. The couple moved to California in 1952, when Don became employed by Atkinson Transport. When Don retired in 1982, he and Marj moved back to Idaho, settling in Melba. Marj passed away in 1986. In 1988, Don married Carolee Healy Crooks of Nampa, who was also recently widowed. Don inherited two grown stepchildren when he married Carolee: Myrna Crooks and Steven Crooks.
In addition to his wives, Don was preceded in death by his parents John and Gladys, his siblings Robert, Mary, Katherine, Larry, Jim, Ray, and Gerry. He is survived by brothers Bill (Gerry) of Boise, Carl (Isora) of Arizona, Ted (Peggy) of Boise, sister Gladys Geiwitz of California, and step children Myrna (David) and Steve (Laneita). Many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews are mourning the loss of their uncle. Don loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren by marriage to Carolee, who also survive him and remember him with loving hearts. In 2016, Don met his current partner Marge Littler. He was a man of faith and an avid golfer with four confirmed hole-in-one shots.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Centennial Baptist Church (3610 E Ustick Rd, Caldwell, ID 83605) at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 10, 2018 with burial immediately following at Melba Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, February 9, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Don was a gentle, energetic man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
