Dewey was born in Galesburg, IL on August 31, 1931 to his parents Dewey and Eva (Collins) Overman. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949. He worked in retail sales before entering the United States Air Force in January 1953. He trained as a ground radio operator in Biloxi, MS and spent tours in several states and Italy.  He separated from the Air Force in June 1961 and began a career with the Federal Aviation Administration in February 1962. He worked in Boise, ID. Needles, CA. Fresno, CA. Red Bluff, CA. San Diego, CA. Fairbanks, AK. St Louis, MO and Hillsboro, OR until his retirement in August 1990 in McMinnville, OR.  Dewey married Rita Elaine Bish Hobart in Red Bluff, CA on Oct 18, 1970. They had many adventures moving from place to place and finally settled in Nampa, ID in 1991.

He loved playing bridge at the senior center in Nampa and being with his great friends. Dewey enjoyed fishing and playing golf until it was no longer possible.  Dewey was honored to serve as a deacon for the First United Presbyterian Church of Nampa. He also loved singing in the choir.

He was preceded in death by his father Dewey and mother Eva, his sister Betty Symms; his mother and father in-law Ruth and Aubrey Bish of Marsing, ID.  He is survived by his wife Rita, step-son Ric Hobart and his wife Robin of Nampa, Bill Hobart and grandson Tristen Hobart of Red Bluff, CA; his sister Darlene Snyder and husband Marion of Knoxville, IN; brother in-law Jim Bish of Wilder, ID and several nieces and nephews in Idaho and Illinois.  

Dewey passed away July 4, 2017 of natural causes at a hospital in boise. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the United Presbyterian Church of Nampa, 400 Lake Lowell Ave., Nampa, ID.  Arrangements are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. 208-459-0833.
