Carol J. Horton, 87, died at Caldwell, ID on November 8, 2017. She was born in Racine, WI on February 7, 1930 to Frank and Alice Luhn. Her siblings include brothers Charles (deceased) and Herbert; and sisters Elaine and Jayne. She spent the first 47 years of her life in Racine, enjoying Lake Michigan, roller skating, ice skating, and many joyful youthful days. In 1953, Carol married John Shepherd. Their three loving daughters survive her; Margaret (Erik) Hansen, Marian Shepherd, and Linda (Rich) Evans. In 1977, Carol moved to Boise, ID. She married Bill Horton (deceased), and subsequently lived in Ketchum, Hailey and Payette, Idaho, before moving to an assisted living facility in Caldwell. Besides her children, she is survived by step-children Billy (Lisa) Horton, Brent (Tracy) Horton, and Beverly Burnett, along with grandchildren Angela (Kent) Dixon, Eric Hoyle; and Daniel, Aaron and Anndrea Horton; and great-grandchildren Tidas, Eliott and Soloman Dixon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mom had a lively intelligence and stimulated our learning with puzzles, cards and games; and by bringing classical music albums home from the library. She would make treasure hunts for us on Easter, composing every rhyming clue herself. She sewed summer shifts not only for us, but for our neighborhood girlfriends. All of these things she did while also working a full-time job. Later, in Idaho, she became a quilter, hand-stitching every piece herself. All of us have at least one of her beautiful quilts, including identical Green Bay Packer quilts she made for each of us.
We daughters would like to thank the loving staff of Autumn Winds and Heart & Home, both located in Caldwell. We would also like to thank the Hortons, who provided her with a lively and loving family life in Idaho. Most of all, we would like to thank Neil and Cindy Horton, whose generosity and friendship provided constant comfort to her in her last years.
At Carol's request, no services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, ID: 208-459-0833. www.flahifffuneralchapel.com
